Website Redesign
CHALLENGE
A refocus from proof of existence to product storytelling and sales. Weaving storytelling into product showcases
The client would like to redesign the current website as a means of refocusing the website’s objectives towards the objects produced at the cultural center. The initial design of the website was done as a way to disseminate as much information about the cultural center and its offerings. The goal now, according to the client, is to have the current objects and projects at the forefront of the site.
THE APPROACH
Site reorganization
A site map was created to better understand the layout of the current website and to provide a visual representation of assumptions to be tested during the initial user testing. This process led to a restructuring exercise with the client, resulting in several iterations of the website’s sitemap.
User pain points on the current website
A large part of the conversation during the user interview session involved having participants walk through the site. Three tasks were prepared: locating the About section, purchasing a product, and finding the story behind the products. A few key takeaways: The website is well-designed for new visitors, but it breaks a few design patterns that confuse users. Additionally, the separation of the product story and the purchase location confused many users.
THE SOLVE
Okpara House 2.0; New and Improved
After a series of user tests, research, and meetings with the client, the new Okpara House website was designed to meet the client’s needs by showcasing the stories behind the products created by the center.
